Bumblebee Jasper Drop Earrings with Quartz Hearts
Earrings that are sure to be conversation starters - featuring quartz hearts and stunning Bumblebee Jasper. I chose this amazing gem because of its association with volcanoes - it seemed appropriate to our volcanic derived scenery in the Isle of Skye.
But, first off, bumblebee is not actually a jasper at all! First discovered on the island of Java during the 1990s this gemstone is known in Indonesia, as 'batu badar belerang' which roughly translates to 'coal becoming sulphur'. It is mined from the side of a volcano and its vivid colours come from its sulfur and arsenic content—although its name refers more to its resemblance to the colour of bees.
The sulphur and arsenic content has caused some debate in the jewellery world. Certainly in its raw state it should always be handled with caution. Once the porous rock is cut and polished, many specimens are fissure filled to help stabilize the rock (a common practice in the trade).
Finished with silver plated wire detail and silver plated ear wires. Drop length 5cm.
These come to you on a signature Indigo Berry earring card, wrapped in tissue in an organza bag, along with information about the gemstones.
